In general, all manufacturers products can exhibit front/back focus problems based on manufacturing tolerances and other factors. Nikon AF systems behave quite differently than the Canon systems, but are still subject to back and front focus anomalies, just like all cameras. The existence of AF Adjustment systems is an acknowledgment by the camera companies that tolerance issues exist (the bad news), but that in fact most of them can be corrected with a stable and accurate reference platform like LensAlign (the good news).
