Why are there two alignment holes in the LensAlign focus target?

For almost all calibration sessions, the target (hole) in the center of the Front Plate is used to ensure that the AF point of the camera locks onto the vertical Focus Target and does not wander off to latch onto the Ruler instead.

The only time you might choose to use the right hand Focus Target hole (closest to the Ruler) is for very close (macro) lens alignment where focusing on the center Target may put the Ruler outside the catpured image entirely. In this very close scenario, you can visually ensure that the camera’s AF locks onto the Central Focus Target surface and not on the Ruler.
